Luxury whiskey brand The Macallan have been running a competition in which they are encouraging people to send in and important image and tag it with a key word – they call it the Last Word. There are some great prizes up for grabs too including Fujifilm cameras and a photography trip to Scotland. The Locals were approached by Macallan, and asked to submit our own Last word image, so I decided to take a picture of my friends Rob and Vic.
I first met Rob Dunne and Vic Frankowski a little over a year ago, while they were working in a coffee shop in central London. Since then they have opened their own coffee consultancy, Dunne Frankowski, with their first bar located in Protein, Shoreditch.
Their enthusiasm for coffee is contagious, and you only need to speak to them for a few moments to see just how passionate they are about what they do. Their ethos is simple – quality over quantity. It is all about coffee served right, served simply, and impeccably well.
I took this picture one morning before the morning coffee rush, as Rob and Vic were setting up for the day. It is inspiring to see two people working so hard to do something new and innovative within their industry, while still finding time to joke around.
My Tip – In order to capture the coffee mug in the air, I set the Mode dial to Tv (shutter-priority autoexposure). In this mode, you control the shutter speed, and the camera takes care of choosing an aperture setting that will produce a good exposure. I then set the shutter speed to 1/400 sec, raised the ISO, and set the Drive mode to High-speed Continuous. Doing this allows you to capture a moving object, without having to worry about blurring.
Make sure to check out the competition yourself here and good luck!!
