Michelin trained chef Jun Tanaka and Mark Jankel of The Food Initiative set up Street Kitchen in Autumn 2011, creating the first street food business to serve restaurant quality ‘fast food’ using 100% UK sourced sustainable and organic ingredients. Today, they opened their third site on Shoreditch High Street following the success of their other locations at Broadgate Circle and Battersea.
Situated in the former Hackney House, Street Kitchen will be open from midday until 4pm Tuesday to Sunday, providing a selection of foodie delights all created from sustainable produce, sourced directly from British farms. As co-founder Mark comments, “It has been so exciting meeting new farmers and developing our supply chain over the last eighteen months, it is incredibly important to us to know where our ingredients come from and how they are produced.”
For those tempted to check it out, you can expect to find dishes like crispy chicken salad with warm crushed potatoes, bacon, croutons, pickled red onions and Winchy mayo (apparently their own take on mayo made with Old Winchester cheese) on the lunch menu, and the more traditional burgers and wings for the dinner crowd.
All items are served in compostable food boxes and will be priced between £3.50 and £7.50.
Let us know what you think if you go check it out.
